BRING BACK THE EMBLEMATIC CONTEST – OPEN DE PORTUGAL
The organisation of the 56th Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort will be under the direct responsibility of NAU Hotels & Resorts, owner of Morgado Golf Course, the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) and the Association of Golf Professionals (PGA de Portugal), the three entities that signed the protocol enabling the return of this emblematic contest to the international agenda, for a period of three years.
Miguel Franco de Sousa, chairman of the FPG; José Correia, chairman of PGA de Portugal, and Mário Azevedo Ferreira, CEO of the NAU Hotels & Resorts were the faces of a partnership sanctioned by the PGA European Tour and Challenge Tour.
A partnership that will enable taking the first and second European professional golf division for the first time to Morgado Golf Course, situated in the municipality of Portimão. This dual ranking tour with half a million euros in prize money, will count for the world ranking, the European Tour Race to Dubai and the Challenge Tour Race to Oman.
“Golf is one of the most important market segments for our hotels, and a reference anchor for the Morgado Golf Resort”, Mário Azevedo Ferreira explained, stressing: “We have worked progressively, year after year, on positioning our courses and hotels on the national golf panorama for amateur and professional tournaments, and have gained the recognition of all for the quality of our facilities and service. It was our ambition to also extend this recognition and high repute to international competitions, for which we have been engaging with the FPG and PGA Portugal for some time.”
And on a final note: “It is a great joy and satisfaction to see everyone’s efforts rewarded in this way by the European Tour, and also to be able to contribute in such a decisive way to the image of golf in Portugal and the Algarve, placing Morgado Golf Resort and Portimão on the map of the major international events of this sport.”
